El Torcal, Andalucia, Spain

'El Torcal' is a tableland of 1100 ha/450 acre in the province of Málaga close to the city of Antequera.
It is an extension of the 'Sierra Subbética' located at about 1100-1400 mt./3600-4600 ft.
The landscape consists of carst formations whereas canyons and rocks alternate in constantly different forms. Columns and flags of diverse sizes look like artificially arranged.

100 million of years ago it was covered by the ocean 'Tethys'. The sediment discharge formed beds of limestone. The alpine orogenese, means the collision of the african and eurasian continent it came to lifted and folded those beds to hills and mountains.

You can find loads of bizarre stone sculptures. A beautiful miniature canyonland.

For everyone who is interested in the geology of that area: [link]

This is a vertical handheld panorama of two blended exposures.
The light was pretty intense and in order to bring out detail in the shadows I did two exposures, one for lights and one for shadows.
I closed the aperture to get the sun as star-like as possible.

I was near hear at Christmas...we stayed overnight in Antequera because I wanted to shoot the rocks here, but it rained all the time I was there.
I have a lot of places in Andalucia I want to go back to, particularly here, Poblado del Embalse [link] [link] and Casares.

This is a lovely shot Max, great work

That's a pity! I actually wanted to stay there at nightfall but in the end we visited it over the day.
Especially the Andalusian coast is worth a visit too.
(Cabo de Trafalgar or Cabo de Gata ar just great seascapes places).
I haven't seen these photos until now. They're great.
It is so funny to see how we have shot quite similar details of the Alhambra. We could put them together xD
haha

Thanks!
